They say through great tragedy comes a new strength from within. Well, in this case the great tragedy in question is the global Pandemic, and the strength is THE HYBRIS’ overwhelming to persevere through the lockdowns, restrictions and whatnot, and still be able to create a masterful piece of music even with miles upon miles separating the artists. They crafted this album remotely in their respective countries of Germany, the U.S. and France. To not have the benefit of existing within a shared recording space yet still give the impression that they were creating within one lone room is pretty awesome.

Now, understand there is a great history amongst this heroic trio. Originally, they were in the same place at the same time. All knowing each other and living simultaneously in Germany. That is where they cut their teeth together playing in different combinations in various bands. Once time and space divided them, they still had the urge to create together and do so in a ingenious way. First, to settle on the name THE HYBRIS as their moniker shows their astute level of creativity and forward thinking, For the meaning that lies within Greek tragedy. It means exaggerated self-pride, arrogance, excess of ambition that all cause the transgressor’s ruin. I can’t think of anything that better describes the current state of the world.

Listen to ‘What If’ on Spotify

Enter THE HYBRIS with this anthemic song about saving the world. It’s about the world burning as we stand smiling the match wondering why. Our children and our children’s children are long going to pay for our misdeeds now. THE HYBRIS are here to act as the superheroes here to right the ship. Ringo Rabbit, Beanie Bison and Malcolm Mandrill, their alter-egos, are on a mission. The lyrical display has a funky tinge to it as it exists within the rock genre and dips into a powerful melodic range. The guitar is raucous with guiding riffs and the drums keep a funky beat. This song is a beautiful mishmash of punk, rock, and funk. Well, at least in my opinion it is. All in all, it’s definitely worth your time to give it a solid listen.
