La Haine

I finish this list with one of my favorite films. A film starring on of my favorite actors, the magnificent Vincent Cassell. La Haine shows with an unflinching eye the horrible mistreatment of minorities by those who are supposed to “serve and protect”, A young Arab man is beaten unconscious and hospitalized by police, and his friends traumatized and distraught by his horrendous mistreatment become embroiled in riots that are sparked by the police brutality in their small suburb of Paris. This film sparked my love for anything Vincent Cassell does, and it remains as impactful today as it did almost thirty years ago, seeing as racism and police brutality is still prevalent in society.
